Auras, Tendrils
Ann Fox Chandonnet
Penumbra Press Poetry Series, No. 9TOGETHER WITH THE TOUR DE FORCE LONGPOEM, In Velvet, this fine collection of poems by Ann Fox Chandonnet offers what Arthur Koestler called 'the discovery of hidden analogies.'
Under the salty, weathered surface
the wood is soft, shines
viscera.
My curved knife sinks in sweetly.
When I am not sure
how deep to cutabove the chin,
under the brow ridge
my fingers automatically
measure my own face,
my damp brow.
Thus the wolf
and the bad shaman
come to look familiar,
like brothers
as they should.
